My Story

Hi, I'm Canon! I'm a 22 year old game designer living in the Seattle area, but I'm originally from Cleveland, Ohio (O-H... (Ohio people know what comes next haha)). I was introduced to Video Games when I was very young with a plug and play version of Pac-Man, but I decided to become a game designer after finishing The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, which is still my favorite game! While I had played great games before it, Skyward Sword was the first game that made me think about video games as something more than something to do for fun, but rather an artistic medium with bounds of potential for new experiences that only interactive media can create.

I decided I wanted to go to DigiPen immediately after finishing Zelda (so I was only 12 years old actually when I decided that!), and I spend the years in between trying to play and learn everything about video games that I could, which included me beginning to work in Unreal Engine during high school and beginning to collect video games around that same time. I would end up studying a lot of different game designers, but the one I have ended up looking up to the most would have to be Fumito Ueda, and I think my style and approach to game design has taken a lot of ques from him, and designers who studied his work as well.

The Game I look up to the Most
Shadow of the Colossus

At DigiPen, I studied particularity in Systems Design, Narrative Design, Level Design, Technical Design and Computer Science, Psychology, Game Production, and Project Management. During my time at school, one of my projects was recognized by the Game Developers Conference and I got the opportunity to attend GDC as a speaker to be a part of the 2023 Game Narrative Review, where I discussed the insightful ludonarrative design of Bloodborne, and what we can learn from it's narrative design decisions. It was a really stand-out opportunity for me because it was the first time I earned the space to share what I've learned over the years with the industry, even if I hadn't had any games attached to my name yet beyond student projects. I gained a lot of confidence in myself and my ideas from that experience, and that confidence would lead me on a different kind of journey.

I, along with a few good friends, began working on establishing an independent game studio of our own, which we have been working on a long term project under, even during our days at university. As of January 2024, we officially registered our studio, Radical Dreamers Ltd., and we are fast at work developing on our first project!
I am expecting to graduate from DigiPen in the spring of 2026 with a bachelors of Arts in Game Design, and I am thrilled to see where the road leads after, both for our young studio, and for my own personal endeavors!

Aside from Video Games

(Wild statement, I know) but despite popular belief, I do have a life outside of Video Games. Growing up I played Ice Hockey, and later picked up lacrosse in High School as well. I'm not actively playing Hockey as much anymore, but, I do love the game, and am always looking for opportunities to get out on the ice and get some skating in.

My favorite sport these days to watch is Football, and I'm always excited to support the Cleveland Browns year after year (even when it gets hard).

I also grew up pretty into music, and played the Violin in several youth orchestras for many years. Today, I still am into music a lot, with my favorite genre's being Rap, Rock, and Emo. Some of my favorite artists or bands are Kanye West, Radiohead, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Kendrick Lamar, Kid Cudi, Travis Scott, Rush, Aerosmith, MF DOOM, JPEGMAFIA, and Tyler, the Creator.

I also really like Science Fiction and Comic Books. I grew up with the Star Wars series, reading a lot of the comic books and playing a lot of the extended universe video games (Knights of the Old Republic I and II would have to be my favorites), and of course watching the movies, which I would say Episodes IV and V are my favorites of the films. These days, I'm really into the X-Men and Dune, so I've been reading a lot of both of those series in my spare time, and both are super interesting in unique ways!
