Areas of Focus

The Perspective I Bring to the Table

Ludonarrative Design

The intersection of a video game's narrative and gameplay elements.

I view Game Systems, Level Design, Combat, Encounters, UI, and more as tools to deliver story directly through the gameplay experience. On a team, I advocate for and seek out ways to create storytelling opportunities and ludonarrative cohesion through the game design.

Direction and Content Design

Our art means something, even if its as simple as bringing a smile to a players face. Whether it's defining the creative vision, or creating engaging and meaningful content to bring that vision to life, creating deeply meaningful gameplay and levels is my way of inviting players to interact with a teams ideas.

Tutorialization

Screenshot 2024-12-04 100705.png

Teaching a player how to play your game is just as important as the design a team is able to deliver. A game loop a player can't learn is one that has failed to think about their player. Crafting and iterating on non intrusive and highly immersive tutorial experiences is a priority in my work.

Technical Design / Tools

I look for opportunities to help other designers by creating helpful, and designer friendly tools to lower the technical barrier for my piers. Having struggled with programming when I first began designing games, I keep in mind the perspective I had in those early days to measure what accessibly means for less technical game designers, and making sure my tools could be what I would have needed back in the day.

Just a boy from Cleveland, Ohio

At 5 foot 2 and 115 lbs, I'm most likely not getting drafted into the NHL, but I do pretty good at game design! I'm passionate about the artistic potential of video games and I'm driven to bring all the wonder to new players that the Zelda series brought me as a kid.

My name is Canon
